A seasonal creek crosses the vineyard which indicates the water table to be high in the spring, providing water and nutrients for new shoot growth. As veraison approaches the water table drops, stressing the wines and intensifying the dark velvety fruit flavors. This is a natural area to grow Bordeaux varietals with dry farming or minimal drip irrigation.

The growing season started out with unseasonably warm temperatures in the late winter and early spring, triggering early bud break. Colder temperatures in May slowed grape development which, coupled with the fourth year of drought, resulted in a smaller crop in 2015. This wine is ruby red color with purple hues. On the nose it is intense, vinous and fruity, with notes of blackberries. Medium bodied, velvety, with very good balance between freshness and warm sensations. A long persistent and savoury finish. Excellent with pasta dishes and medium cured cheese.

From fruit grown in the cooler part of Alexander Valley, this is a Pinot made with impressive dedication to detail. 3 different clones (777, Dijon and Pommard for those interested) bring differing characteristics and qualities to the wine, leading to a complex, contrasting wine with stylish aromatics. It's a dark and atmospheric wine, the fruit brooding and black, yet the top notes that one would hope for - oriental florals, leaves and spices, are there too. Polished.

A medley of graphite, spice and crushed red strawberries waft from the glass. Further digging reveals even more to the nose of this Pinot Noir, in the flickering form of oak spice and caramelized fruits. On the palate, there’s opulent fruit and signature Dundee Hills spices like allspice, cardamom and sandalwood. The palate is loaded, with fresh strawberry jam and an underlying earthiness taking the lead. Structurally, there are soft oak tannins that give way to an exquisitely long and balanced finish.

The Simple Life Pinot Noir offers lifted fresh fruit and floral aromas with an incredibly soft and juicy palate. Our 2016 Riva Ranch Pinot Noir is subtle with delicate hints of baked red apple and hints of baking spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. This wine has beautiful lingering tannins making this a great wine for food pairings.

Wine Advocate: 94 Points The NV 30 Year Old Tawny Port was bottled with a bar top cork in 2014. It comes in at 125.8 grams per liter of residual sugar. It isn't that I dislike the 20s or even younger Tawnies, but this shows what you get by stepping up. (Granted, the price is quite a step up, too.) This has that wonderful concentration of flavor, the molasses, the touch of treacle and the extra complexity that you don't always get with young Tawnies. Its combination of power, concentration and complexity also means that it lingers endlessly on the finish. It's one of those wines you will be able to smell on anything it touches for much of the evening.

A rich ruby hue prefaces lively scents of blackberry, cassis, Bing cherry, plum and violet, while suggestions of leather, dried tobacco, sage and sandalwood enhance the wine’s aromatic complexity. A deep, juicy palate delivers generous flavors of black cherry, black plum and ripe blueberry with hints of kirsch, licorice, cedar and roasted almond. A soft, lengthy finish unfolds with plush tannins and lingering notes of cranberry, cocoa and graphite.

Savory aromas of toasted walnuts, charred meat and dark berries make for a very savory impression on the nose of this blend of 51% Cabernet Franc and 49% Merlot. The tannins are expertly polished and land with a smooth coating, embracing flavors of roasted fruit, cocoa, fig and roasted almonds, with a delicate hit of acidity popping on the finish.

Tasting Notes For Justin Savant Red Wine 2019 Bright, deep purple, ruby core with a lighter rim and slow forming, thick, moderately stained tears. Very Aromatic with black fruit of cherry, berry and blackcurrant, smoke, cracked pepper, vanilla, oak, leather and sweet tobacco. Full bodied and textured, with ripe black mixed with red fruit on entry with baking spice and oak.

The Meerlust Rubicon has an intense, opaque dark purple core with slight gradation to a bright magenta rim. The nose is complex with rich cassis and plum fruit, a pronounced muskiness with hints of star anise, creamy oak and lifted graphite and cedar aromas. The palate is rich and well structured with dense black fruit, fresh acidity and linear, satin tannins. There is a delicious, layered textural quality from the mid palate which is very elegant and concentrated.

The iconic Bordeaux wine, modern, assured and generous, with powerful red fruit and elegant black fruit aromas and flavours, as well as delicate touches of spice that give it an attractive freshness.

The 2023 Eight Years in the Desert pours a dark mauve core with a red amethyst rim and aromatic notes of ripe blackberry and raspberry bramble. Further hints of chocolate covered espresso bean, black pepper and allspice emanate from the glass. The entry is dominated by black plum preserves and freshly baked mixed berry morning bun with an energetic yet concentrated mid-palate. Soft and textured tannins give way to a lifted finish with a touch of pluot and dried tarragon.

A tale of juxtapositions, Papillon opens the door to any wine drinker—seasoned or raw—of the possibilities of a five-varietal Bordeaux-blend. A weathered pair of farm hands and the image of a fragile butterfly extend to the wine itself—delicate yet brawny, nuance but bold. Difficult to find in the Napa Valley, we source and ferment the different varietals to our house style: ripe, lush, accessible and with very soft tannins.

Building on the Paraduxx tradition of artful blending, this limited-production wine was inspired by the great wines of Côte-Rôtie, where Syrah and Viognier are traditionally co-fermented to make a beautifully aromatic wine. Bright aromas of ripe raspberry, vanilla, and coconut give way to flavors of fresh and dried blackberry, pomegranate, and vanilla, which linger harmoniously for a smooth and luscious finish.

Our new “Red Wine of the World,” this red blend is sourced from famed regions of southern Australia, the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale. Mostly Shiraz with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, Transit 1 is bold yet nuanced, featuring scents of smoky meat, chocolate and wet soil. A hint of mint on the palate stems from native trees. Just like our Red Schooner Malbec from Argentina is known by the “voyage” that produced it, this wine is called a sequential “transit.”

Opaque ruby in color, it offers aromatic contrast between dark, savory cherry fruit, graphite, and top notes of green pepper and rose petals. The palate explodes with detailed flavors and its tannins are resolved and chocolaty, with seamless acidity and exotic spicy layers on the extended finish.

On the palate, the wine is medium bodied and textured with lingering dried fruit, mixed berry flavors and hints of spice. Enjoy this wine with red meats, pasta, prosciutto and bold cheeses.

Unshackled Red Blend is a Prisoner family Red Wine - bright and jammy with a generous mouth feel. Aromas of raspberry, blueberry, and violet lead to flavors of spiced cherry, florals and hints of white pepper.

A clever red wine blend that is attractive, delectable, but substantial in weight with huge tannins and oak at the center of it's style. This wine exhibits aromas and flavors of ripe berries, plum, leather, tobacco and savory spices

Plum and cherry fruits are backed by Szechuan peppercorns, cloves and mint on this characterful Shiraz. There's a good lick of cola oak here too. The palate is fresher than expected, wound by taut tannins that feel a bit austere. It has a burst of tangy fruit and an intriguing spice rack of flavors, but the wine needs plenty of protein to cut through those tannins.

Mollydooker Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz 2020, a red wine, uses grapes grown in McLaren Vale region of South Australia. The winery uses three different vineyards for the Shiraz grapes : Coppermine Road, Gateway, Long Gully Road & Mollydooker Home. After the fermentation, wine is aged in American Oak barrels (54% new; 46% 1yr old). The grapes are sustainably grown.

The original is the Earthquake Zin which came from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the same time of San Francisco’s great Earthquake of 1906. While mulling over a label name in the vineyard, Michael Phillips thought it only seemed fitting to relate this intense wine with the historical quake.
