Spain’s Catalonia region’s cosmopolitan city, Barcelona, is known for its distinctive art, architecture, creative cuisine, and energetic street life. CHIC Barcelona, a light and crisp cava from Barcelona, where the traditional and the contemporary coexist, is ideal for turning every event into a CHIC celebration. Spanish sparkling wine created using the traditional, or Champagne Method, is called cava, which means cave. Cava is produced in Spain’s Penedes Region with a 95% DO percentage. The region has a Mediterranean climate with influences from the continent, which means it typically has chilly winters and moderate summers. Because the grapes mature more slowly, rich and fresh wines are produced.

Kir Yianni is located in Macedonia’s highly regarded Naoussa region, Greece’s first official wine appellation founded in 1972 that is committed almost entirely to the indigenous Xinomavro varietal. Their Akakies Sparkling Xinomavro is made in the Charmat Method which is a process where wine undergoes its secondary fermentation (which creates carbonation) in large stainless steel pressure tanks. This approach typically creates fresh, fruit-forward aromas and flavors, which are evident in the Akakies Rosé with its bouquet of ripe fruit including cherry, raspberry, strawberry, and blood orange. The palate is off dry with a light spritz and rich, bold flavors of pomegranate, raspberry, and rose that lead into a tart and mineral finish.

The wine is delicate and mineral-driven with restrained fruit aromas of strawberry, raspberry, white florals, and citrus. Small and fine bubbles and crisp acidity define the palate, and flavors of strawberry, cherry, grapefruit zest carry through the dry, mineral finish.

Vinho Verde refers not only to the region where this wine is from but also to the notion that such a wine should be drunk young or while it is ‘green.’ Las Lilas produces a light, classic expression of Vinho Verde from 100% estate grown grapes that demonstrates a fresh, aromatic nose with aromas of lime, green apple, white florals, and sea salt. Gentle effervescence combines with flavors of citrus, green apple, pear, and bright acidity to create a balanced and refreshing palate with a soft tart finish.

Known by its region of origin rather than its varietal name, Château Salmonière Muscadet is from the Sèvre et Maine area of the Loire which extends across some twenty communes to the south east of Nantes. It takes its name from the two rivers flowing through the vineyards: the Sèvre Nantaise and the Maine. This expression of the wine is characterized by a musky, mineral nose with aromas of grapefruit, lemon, lime, and white florals. Salty minerality and bright acidity are forefront on the palate which is perfectly balanced and filled with flavors of crisp citrus, green apple, and unripe melon.

Bernabeleva Camino de Navaherreros Blanco is hand harvested and blended from 50% Albillo, 30% Macabeo, 15% Moscatel, and 5% Garnacha Blanca. The vineyards are high elevation and biodynamically influenced, with no artificial fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides, and all fermentations start spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. Intense floral and fruit aromas adorn the bouquet with notes of jasmine, stone fruit, citrus, and minerality. The palate is complex and textured with lively acidity, minerality, and salinity accentuated by flavors of white stone fruit, honeysuckle, flint, spicy white pepper, and lightly bitter grapefruit.

Sauvignon Gris is a pink-skinned mutation of Sauvignon Blanc with slightly higher sugar levels which contribute to greater aromatics and a richer, more rounded mouthfeel. Casa Silva’s Sauvignon Gris comes from old vines planted 100+ years ago, resulting in a complex, nuanced wine. The bouquet is smoky and mineral with aromas of lime, grapefruit, pineapple, chalk, and sea salt. Notes from the nose carry to the palate with additional flavors of bell pepper, lemongrass, green melon, green apple, salty minerality, and subtle spice on the finish.

Fossil Point is named for the Edna Valley headland that provides sweeping views of the Central California coastline and plays tribute to the coastal climate that defines the region's vineyards and soils. Their 2018 Pinot Noir is robust and fruit forward with aromas of raspberry, strawberry, plum, hibiscus, sumac, orange peel, and leather on the nose. The palate is mineral-driven with soft acidity and flavors of pomegranate, tart cherry, blackberry, and black pepper, with an underlying herbaceousness and earthy finish.

The name Dafnios is derived from the town and appellation of Dafnes, Crete where all red wine produced under the designation must be made from 100% Liatiko grapes. Douloufakis offers a light and elegant representation of the varietal that sees 12 months in French oak following fermentation. The bouquet is expressive and earthy with aromas of red berries, forest floor, thyme, and baking spices. Firm tannins, high acidity, and subtle oak provide generous structure to the lighter body and give depth to the flavors of red fruit, pomegranate, cherry, leather, and spice.

Sourced from vineyards along the hillsides of the Alps and the Austrian border, Benvolio Rosso is blended from 70% Refosco and 30% Merlot. Due to the cooler regional temperatures the wine is delicate and dry with lively acidity and smooth tannins. Notes of cherry, raspberry, and violet are plentiful on the nose and palate with spice and black pepper lingering on the finish.

Croatina is a varietal grown primarily in the Oltrepo Pavese region of Lombardy, though as the name suggests, originates from Croatia. In some regions the grape is also known as Bonarda (as the bottle indicates) however, it is unrelated to the more commonly grown Bonarda Piemontese. The aromas on the nose are bright and fruit-forward with notes of morello cherry, blueberry, blackberry, lavender, and peppery spice. The palate mirrors fruit from the nose with rich cherry and blueberry accented by flavors of allspice, cinnamon, and pepper, with moderate acidity and gripping tannins.

Cultivated with respect to sustainable agriculture, Ixsir’s vineyards are spread across the mountains of Lebanon from Batroun to Jezzine and reach an altitude of 1,800 meters, making them some of the highest in the Northern Hemisphere. Their Altitudes Rouge is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Caladoc, and Tempranillo and is aged for 6 months in French oak. The bouquet is spicy and herbaceous with aromas of black and red fruit, oak, black pepper, and vanilla. Soft and complex, the palate shows well-integrated tannins, a medium body, and flavors of blackberry, black currant, wood, leather, baking spices, and tobacco.

Podere Il Palazzino is located in the southern part of Chianti and has been owned and operated by the Sderci family since the early 1970s and adheres to a strict organic approach to viticulture and environmentally friendly practices. Their 2019 Rosso is a blend of 95% Sangiovese and 5% Canaiolo and is fermented in stainless steel before 14 months of aging in large oak casks. The result is a fresh and earthy wine with aromas of red and black berries, leather, spice, and hints of soft florals. Spice and ripe berries carry over to the smooth and rounded palate which showcases smooth tannins and additional flavors of black cherry, tobacco, and sage.

Pasaeli was founded in 2000 by Seyit Karagözoğlu after spending 10 years working as a fine wine importer. The indigenous Karasakiz grapes that make up the 2001 6N (along with a small portion of Merlot) come from a single, high altitude vineyard along the Aegean Sea in Western Turkey and are fermented with only native yeast before aging for 6 months in French and American oak barrels. While the wine is relatively light and refreshing it is intensely aromatic and earthy with aromas of warm red fruit, cherry, red currant, and baking spices. The palate has flavors of cranberry, plum, fig, and spice which lead into a long and earthy finish with lightly prickly tannins.

Recognized as the first black female winemaker of South Africa, Ntsiki Biyela established her line of Aslina Wines in 2016 in honor of her grandmother, Aslina, who she credits as her life’s greatest inspiration. Her bordeaux blend is characterized by its bold structure, smoothness, and complexity and as such bears Aslina’s nickname, Umsasane, the Zulu word for umbrella tree, known for providing shelter, protection, and comfort. The wine displays a very rich nose with aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, plum, pepper, nutmeg, smoke, leather, and oak. Equally bold flavors are prevalent on the palate with standout notes of blackberry, cherry, plum, cocoa, and pepper, and well-integrated but grippy tannins punctuate the otherwise silky smooth body and spicy finish.

Finca Decero was founded in 2000 by Swiss owner Thomas Schmidheiny with the intention of establishing an exceptional wine estate “from scratch” (as Decero translates) that is committed to social and environmental sustainability including vegan winemaking methods. The winery occupies a one of a kind vineyard in Agrelo, Mendoza and was chosen for its pristine water quality of glacial meltwater from an underlying aquifer and a unique tapestry of virgin soils unmatched in the surrounding area. Their 2017 Petit Verdot is one of their rare varietal and limited edition wines with only 9.936 bottles produced that vintage. Its bouquet is fragrant and robust with aromas of blueberry pie, spicy black pepper, quince, mulberry, and violet. The palate is deep and dark with a velvety body and flavors of blueberry, blackberry, plum, cassis, tobacco, graphite, and black pepper.
