"Our Mother Clone is a classic ‘Dry Creek’ Zinfandel with spicy aromas of cinnamon and white pepper along with red berries and a touch of vanilla. Black cherry flavors blend with vanilla, licorice, and warm baking spices with balanced acidity. The berry-spice combination, so typical of Dry Creek Zin, includes a round peppery finish which is a hallmark of our style. "

"The Ridge Team started making Grenache Blanc with the 2018 vintage, John Olney impressed by the fruit he could find in Paso Robles. Able to source from three sites, Fossil Creek, Adelaida, and Halter Ranch, all on the appellation's westside, it includes 14% Picpoul Blanc, and 2% Roussanne. Before this, the only white wine Ridge ever made was Chardonnay from Monte Bello Estate. Fermented in barrel, both American and French, and aged partly in concrete and clay amphorae, it is elegant yet concentrated, with lasting acidity." (JD)

"The vineyard source of younger-vine Nero d’Avola for this non vintage blend is both dry farmed (non-irrigated) and employs head trained (goblet) vines. These agricultural practices are certainly not the short-cut to growing grapes commercially today (especially for rosé wines!), but the efforts produce distinctive wines full of concentration, particularly at lower alcohol, and allows the vineyard to develop slowly in order to preserve a longer lifespan."

The Chablis Dessus la Carrière confirms its impressive showing from tank last year, offering up aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, dried white flowers, crisp peaches and smoke. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, its ample attack segueing into a tensile, incisive mid-palate before concluding with a mineral finish. This comes from 12 parcels and is invariably chock full of flinty seashell essence, making it a quintessential Chablis.

"The name translates as "over the quarry," for the two parcels that are reserved for this wine grow above an old quarry in a bed of pure Kimmeridgian limestone, essentially one mammoth roche mère, or mother rock. Both parcels were planted in the 1970s, one with a clone, the other with a sélection massale, and the two cover just under five acres of ground. The layer of top soil is so thin here that there is a dead zone where nothing grows in the center of the parcels. These two parcels are always the first to be harvested by the Picqs, and the last to be bottled."

Since 1865, this spicy, earthy aperitif has been known as “ouvre l’appétit” - the key to the appetite.
