Wine Bargains (Dinner)

#1 - Bassano Brut Blanc de Blanc, NV, Italy
Who says you need a special occasion to open bubbles? Blanc de Blancs means the wine is made from white grapes, in this case Chardonnay, Pinot Bianco & Trebbiano, and this Italian sparkler delivers lively bubbles, fresh green apple, citrus, and a touch of delicate floral character. Dry, refreshing, and wonderfully festive, it's a terrific way to welcome guests before Thanksgiving dinner. Just add a cheese board, smoked salmon, or some crispy appetizers.$14.00
#2 - Farina Soave Classico, 2025, Veneto, Italy
Soave is one of Italy's great underappreciated white wines, and the Classico designation takes us into the region's historic hillside vineyards. Made primarily from Garganega, this wine offers ripe pear, golden apple, white flowers, and a lovely hint of almond on the finish. There's enough texture to stand up to food without overwhelming the meal. A beautiful match for roast turkey, herb stuffing, or creamy risotto.$14.00
#3 - Domaine Uby Sauvignon Blanc, 2024, Gascony, France
Southwest France has become one of our favorite hunting grounds for delicious, affordable whites, and Domaine Uby is a great example. Named after the local Uby stream, the estate is known for its fresh, expressive wines. This Sauvignon Blanc delivers grapefruit, lime, passion fruit, and a touch of fresh herbs. Bright and lively, it's perfect with shrimp cocktail, goat cheese, or those lighter appetizers before the big holiday meal.$16.00
#4 - Domaine de Raissac "Les Cres" Viognier, 2024, Languedoc, France
Viognier may be one of the best-kept secrets for Thanksgiving. Its naturally aromatic personality brings ripe peach, apricot, honeysuckle, and a touch of orange blossom, while its generous texture makes it particularly appealing alongside richer dishes. Domaine de Raissac is a historic Languedoc estate, and this wine has all the fragrant charm that makes Viognier so lovable. Try it with turkey, sweet potato casserole, roasted squash, or even mildly spicy holiday appetizers.$16.00
#5 - Mas Treinteycuatro (+34) Chardonnay, 2023, Tierra de Castilla, Spain
The name is a little geography lesson: +34 is Spain's international telephone code. Fortunately, you won't need to make a long-distance call to enjoy this Chardonnay. Ripe apple, pear, and citrus come together with a rounded, easygoing texture and a smooth finish. It's the sort of versatile white that feels right at home with roast chicken, turkey, creamy pasta, or baked brie.$14.00
#6 - Lurton "Les Fumees Blanche" Rose', 2025, Gascony, France
François Lurton's Les Fumées Blanches wines take their name from the misty mornings that can settle over the vineyards. This pretty French rosé offers fresh strawberry, raspberry, and citrus with a delicate, refreshing finish. And don't let anyone tell you rosé season ends with Labor Day! It's terrific with turkey, charcuterie, smoked salmon, or a holiday buffet where everyone has something different on their plate.$16.00
#7 - Rubus Pinot Noir, 2024, Veneto, Italy
Pinot Noir and Thanksgiving are practically made for each other. With bright cherry, raspberry, and subtle spice, this Italian Pinot delivers a silky texture and a gentle touch that won't overpower the turkey or compete with the side dishes. It's equally delicious with mushroom stuffing, roasted pork, or salmon. At this price, you can comfortably put a bottle at both ends of the table.$12.00
#8 - Alcesti "Nesos" Nero d'Avola, 2023, Sicily, Italy
Nero d'Avola is Sicily's signature red grape, thriving in the island's sunny Mediterranean climate. Alcesti's “Nesos” offers ripe black cherry, plum, and blackberry with hints of Mediterranean herbs and spice. It's generous and flavorful without requiring a special occasion. A wonderful choice for baked pasta, sausage stuffing, roasted meats, or that big family lasagna the day after Thanksgiving.$13.00
#9 - Vina Leirado Mencia, 2022, Ribiera Sacra, Spain
Here's one of the most intriguing wines on the list. Ribeira Sacra is famous for its breathtakingly steep vineyards overlooking the rivers of Galicia, where some slopes are so dramatic that winemaking is often described as heroic viticulture. Mencía produces beautifully fragrant reds with bright cherry, raspberry, violet, and a touch of savory spice. Elegant rather than heavy, it's a terrific alternative to Pinot Noir for Thanksgiving turkey, duck, mushroom dishes, or roasted pork.$16.00
#10 - Di Marco Primitivo, 2025, Puglia, Italy
Primitivo is essentially Zinfandel's Italian cousin, and it absolutely loves the sunshine of southern Italy. This generous red delivers ripe blackberry, dark cherry, and jammy plum flavors with touches of warm spice and a soft, satisfying finish. It's just the thing for those colder November evenings, especially alongside baked ziti, sausage and peppers, barbecue, or a hearty holiday lasagna.$15.00
#11 - Santa Julia Mountain Cuvee, 2024, Mendoza, Argentina
From Argentina's celebrated Zuccardi family comes a terrific blend of Malbec and Cabernet Franc, two grapes that make beautiful music together. Malbec supplies juicy plum, blackberry, and richness, while Cabernet Franc adds floral notes, spice, and a little extra elegance. It's a great bridge between everyday drinking and something special enough for the holiday table. Try it with herb-roasted turkey, beef tenderloin, or mushroom dishes.$16.00
#12 - H3 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2022, Columbia Valley, Washington
H3 stands for Horse Heaven Hills, one of Washington's premier Cabernet-growing regions, where warm sunny days and cool nights help produce beautifully concentrated fruit. This Cabernet delivers black cherry, blackberry, and currant with hints of cocoa and savory spice. Rich, polished, and wonderfully satisfying, it's a natural for prime rib, lamb chops, braised short ribs, or aged cheddar at your holiday gathering.$13.00
*** Aichenberg Grüner Veltliner, 2025, Niederösterreich, Austria
Austria's signature white grape is one of the great secret weapons at the dinner table. Grüner Veltliner combines juicy green apple and citrus with the grape's characteristic touch of white pepper and a wonderfully refreshing finish. It's particularly terrific with foods that can be tricky for wine—think asparagus, artichokes and green vegetables—but we'd be equally happy drinking it with schnitzel or grilled seafood.$13.00
*** Nekora Verdejo, 2025, Rueda, Spain
Verdejo is the signature grape of Rueda, where hot Spanish days and cool nights help create whites with loads of flavor and freshness. Nékora shows off ripe citrus, green apple and peach with subtle herbal and mineral notes. Think of it somewhere in the neighborhood between Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio, but with a personality all its own. Terrific with shellfish, fish tacos or veggie pasta.$14.00
*** Les Hauts de Janiel Grenache / Sauvignon, 2024, Languedoc, France
Here's an unusual marriage that works beautifully: Grenache Blanc brings body, ripe orchard fruit and texture, while Sauvignon Blanc contributes citrus and freshness. The result is a generous southern French white with peach, pear and lemon notes and plenty of personality. Try it with roast chicken, grilled fish or creamy cheeses.$16.00
*** Terra Musa Pinot Grigio, 2024, Veneto, Italy
Originally crafted for the historic Trattoria Busa alla Torre restaurant in Venice, this is Pinot Grigio the old-fashioned way. A little time on the grape skins gives it a beautiful copper hue, extra texture, and a fascinating hint of raspberry tea alongside orchard fruit and citrus. It's proof that Pinot Grigio can be every bit as interesting as it is refreshing. Outstanding with seafood risotto, roasted chicken, or grilled swordfish.$14.00
*** Château du Barail Blanc, 2024, Bordeaux, France
Bordeaux Blanc doesn't always mean Sauvignon Blanc! This one flips the script with 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc, giving the wine a richer, more textured personality. Sémillon brings stone fruit along with intriguing almond and peach-pit notes, while Sauvignon the citrusy lift and freshness on the finish. There's plenty of richness here without feeling heavy. Try it with crab cakes, roasted chicken, or creamy cheeses.$14.00
*** Lobetia Chardonnay, 2025, Castilla La Mancha, Spain
Lobetia comes from organically farmed vineyards in central Spain, and it's a great example of Chardonnay without a ton of makeup. Ripe apple, pear and citrus lead the way, with a smooth texture and clean, refreshing finish. It's an easy bottle to put on the table with grilled chicken, seafood pasta or roasted vegetables—and a lot of Chardonnay for fourteen bucks.$14.00
*** Clos Sonoma Chardonnay, 2024, Russian River Valley, Sonoma, California
Russian River Valley Chardonnay for sixteen bucks definitely got our attention. The region's cool morning fog helps Chardonnay develop loads of flavor while retaining beautiful freshness. Ripe apple, pear and lemon mingle with a touch of vanilla and a round, polished texture. This has enough richness for crab cakes, roast chicken or creamy pasta—and feels like considerably more wine than the price suggests.$16.00
*** Andis “Harvest Widow” Rosé, 2025, Sierra Foothills, California
The name “Harvest Widow” is a nod to all those spouses and partners who barely see their winemaker during the craziness of harvest. Made in California's Sierra Foothills, this is a rosé with plenty of personality—fresh strawberry, watermelon and juicy red berries with a refreshing, dry finish. A great late-summer bottle for grilled salmon, tacos, charcuterie or one last picnic.$16.00
*** Bodegas Albero "Garnachill", 2025, Castilla La Mancha, Spain
The name tells you everything you need to know—this is Garnacha meant for pure enjoyment. Bright red berry fruit, hints of spice, and a juicy, approachable personality make this a bottle you'll want to pour generously. Slightly chilled on a warm evening? Even better. Great with burgers, pizza, tacos, or charcuterie.$16.00
*** Craftwork Pinot Noir, 2023, Monterey, California
Monterey's cool Pacific influence helps create Pinot Noir with vibrant fruit and wonderful balance. This wine offers layers of cherry, raspberry, and subtle baking spice wrapped in a silky texture. Easy to love and incredibly food-friendly, it's terrific with salmon, roast chicken, or mushroom dishes.$15.00
*** Dry Canyon Pinot Noir, 2024, California
Good inexpensive Pinot Noir is one of the harder things to find in the wine world, which makes bottles like this especially welcome. Bright cherry and raspberry fruit lead the way, joined by a touch of spice and a soft, silky texture. It's an easy red to keep around because it works with almost everything—salmon, roast chicken, pork tenderloin, mushrooms or pizza.$13.00
*** Mas Belles Eaux "Cuvee Belle Epoque" Pinot Noir, 2024, France
Pinot Noir at bargain prices can be a tricky hunt, which makes finding a good one especially satisfying. Cuvée Belle Époque is silky and inviting, with bright cherry and raspberry fruit, gentle spice and a soft finish. It's light enough for salmon but has plenty of flavor for roast chicken, pork tenderloin or mushroom dishes.$15.00
*** Morli Neri Chianti DOCG, 2025, Tuscany, Italy
There's a reason Chianti has lived happily alongside Italian food for generations. Built around Tuscany's beloved Sangiovese grape, this one offers juicy cherry and red berry fruit with touches of dried herbs and spice. Pour a big glass alongside pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna or anything involving red sauce. Sometimes the classics are classics for a reason.$14.00
*** Lionel Osmin "Pied de Perdrix", 2022, Southwest, France
Lionel Osmin specializes in the native grapes and overlooked wine regions of southwest France, which makes his wines particularly fun to discover. “Pied de Perdrix”—literally partridge's foot—is an ancient and rare grape related to Malbec. In the glass, expect generous dark and red fruit, savory spice and a smooth, food-friendly personality. Bring on duck, pork, charcuterie or a hearty cassoulet.$15.00
*** Vivanco Crianza, 2022, Rioja, Spain
Vivanco isn't just a winery—the family also created an extraordinary museum devoted to the history and culture of wine in Rioja. Their Crianza gives you a terrific taste of classic Rioja: ripe cherry and plum layered with vanilla, gentle spice and savory notes from time spent in oak. Polished, balanced and ridiculously versatile at the table. Break this one out for lamb chops, grilled pork or Manchego cheese.$16.00
*** Chispas Garnacha Syrah, 2024, Campo de Borja, Spain
“Chispas” means sparks, and there's plenty of energy in this juicy Spanish red. Campo de Borja is famous for Garnacha, which supplies ripe raspberry and blackberry fruit, while Syrah adds darker fruit and a touch of peppery spice. Generous, smooth and tailor-made for grilled meats, barbecue, burgers or pizza.$15.00
*** Vina Las Perdices "Que Guapo", 2024, Mendoza, Argentina
“Qué Guapo” roughly translates to “How handsome!”—so this one already has a little swagger before you pull the cork. From Mendoza's Viña Las Perdices, it's a juicy, exuberant Argentine red with ripe berry and plum fruit, spice and an easygoing texture. A fun bottle for burgers, empanadas, grilled sausages or Taco Tuesday.$13.00
*** Hoffman Monastrell, 2023, Jumilla, Spain
Monastrell thrives under the warm Spanish sun, producing reds with incredible richness and character. This bottle delivers generous blackberry, blueberry, and subtle spice with a velvety finish. Bold enough for grilled steaks and barbecue, yet smooth enough to enjoy on its own.$16.00
*** Viña Galana Garnacha Tintorera, 2022, La Mancha, Spain
Unlike most red grapes, Garnacha Tintorera has naturally red flesh, giving the wine its deep color and generous personality. Ripe blackberry, blueberry, and subtle spice make this a rich yet approachable red that's perfect for barbecue, burgers, or slow-roasted meats$15.00
*** Casa Santos Lima “OMG” Tinto, 2021, Lisboa, Portugal
Portugal continues to be one of our favorite places to look for wines that dramatically outperform their price tags. Casa Santos Lima is a family-owned producer with roots going back generations, and “OMG” is a juicy, generous red packed with blackberry and plum, accented by spice and a smooth finish. Great with burgers, sausages, barbecue or a big plate of Portuguese-style grilled meats.$15.00
*** Gran Passaia Toscano, 2023, Tuscany, Italy
Tuscany has a knack for producing reds that seem to make food taste better. Gran Passaia delivers ripe cherry and dark berry fruit with hints of dried herbs and spice, wrapped in a smooth, polished texture. There's plenty of Tuscan personality here without requiring a special occasion—or a special-occasion budget. Bring on the pasta Bolognese, pizza, meatballs or roast pork.$16.00
*** Louis de Tourny Rouge, 2022, Bordeaux, France
Here's an affordable way to put Bordeaux on the dinner table any night of the week. Dark cherry, blackberry and plum flavors are joined by subtle cedar and spice, with a smooth, nicely put-together finish. It has enough character for steak or roast beef but is approachable enough for burgers and meatloaf. Classic Bordeaux drinking at a decidedly un-Bordeaux price.$15.00
*** Fuenteseca Bobal / Cabernet Sauvignon, 2024, Valencia, Spain
This organic blend combines Spain's native Bobal grape with Cabernet Sauvignon for the best of both worlds. Juicy dark berries, plum, and a hint of spice are supported by a smooth, easygoing finish. A terrific all-purpose red for pizza night, grilled sausages, or backyard cookouts.$14.00
*** Simply Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington State
Washington State has become one of America's great homes for Cabernet Sauvignon, thanks to its long sunny days and cool nights. This one delivers generous blackberry, black cherry and cassis fruit with touches of cocoa and spice and a smooth, satisfying finish. Steak and Cabernet will never be a bad idea, but burgers, short ribs or anything coming off the grill will do nicely, too.$14.00
*** The Wines of Francis Coppola Cabernet Sauvignon, 2024, California
Yes, that Francis Coppola. The legendary filmmaker also built one of California wine country's best-known names, and this Cabernet gives you a taste of California Cab without the usual California Cab price tag. Blackberry, black cherry and cassis meet hints of cocoa and baking spice in a rich, smooth style. Steak is the obvious answer, but burgers, short ribs or meatloaf would be pretty terrific too.$15.00
