- Beauregard Cabernet Sauvignon 'Beauregard Ranch' 2018$188.00
On the nose, the wine is ripe yet has an old world flare akin to a modern classified red wine from Bordeaux. There are notes of ripe black currants, black plum, cassis, leather, red tobacco, cedar, wet rocks, toasted oak and delicate oak spices. The palate is full bodied and multi-layered with a beautiful harmony between ripe fruit, oak, and earth flavors which reflect the nose. The finish is lengthy and fades slowly. I highly advise waiting until the wine has 7-8 years of bottle age to really discover the true beauty these wines have the ability to show. The fruit will eventually integrate, the savory notes will emerge, and the wine will slowly change and show a personality similar to top Bordeaux with a touch more flesh and texture on the palate. California / Ben Lomond Mt. /

- Big Basin Syrah 'Rattlesnake Rock' 2016$96.00
The 2016 Syrah Rattlesnake Rock is a powerful wine. Red fruit, iron, chalk, white pepper, game and incisive tannins give the 2016 a real feeling of drive that distinguishes it in the range. This is an especially mineral-driven, savory, taut Syrah, with all the elements in the right place. Dried herbs, licorice and crushed flowers add aromatic intrigue. It will be interesting to see if the 2016 gains a bit more volume in bottle. It is such a promising wine. The Côte-Rôtie selection Syrah from John Alban works so well here. 98% Syrah, 2% Viognier California / Santa Cruz Mountains /Rattle Snake Rock

- Madson Wines Pinot Noir "Les Enfants des Nuages" 2018$111.00
Because 2018 was an incredibly cold vintage in the Santa Cruz Mountains, this ferment stayed below 55 degrees for 8 days until the sun finally came out and warmed the fermentor. The fermentation occurred spontaneously and naturally for 21 days in the vineyard and was then transported to the winery for pressing. Elevage occurred in neutral 228L oak barrels with bi-monthly battonage. Not only did the grapes experience a cool vintage but so did the fermentation and thus we named it “Les Enfants des Nuages" which translates to the children of the clouds. California/ Santa Cruz Mountains/ Toyon

Medium garnet and medium bodied. Tart cherry, blood orange, white pepper, and crushed rose petal on the nose are supported by cinnamon and red fruit on the palate. 100% Pinot Noir California/Monterey A 50/50 blend of two of the most pristine mountain sites of Monterey County, the Pelio and Coastview vineyards.
- Samuel Louis Smith Pinot Noir 'Pelio'$108.00
Deep red. Wild cherry, black plum, rose hips, and Christmas spice on the nose are followed by red and black fruits, cola, and sweet and savory spices on the palate. A medium body is framed by bright acidity and fine-grained tannins, adding depth and ageability. Pelio is located next to Albatross Ridge, northwest of the Carmel Valley appellation. At 1,000 feet and six miles from Monterey Bay, this site is truly on the edge of viticulture. Clay loam is littered with diatomaceous shale, evidence that this area was under the sea until about 12 million years ago. California / Monterey / NW of Carmel Valley AVA
- Samuel Louis Syrah 'Sandstone Terrace' 2021$68.00
Lovely and plump purple-flower buds of night jasmine and lavender meet with thyme, pink peppercorns and underripe dark berries on the expressive nose of this wine. There is extreme zest to the sip, strong tannic grip and tart boysenberry flavors, with pepper and baking spice on the finish. Syrah California/ Santa Cruz Mountains Sandstone Terrace refers not to our vineyard source for this wine, but to the underlying geology that makes the vineyard and wine special. Underneath the clay and sandy clay loams that characterize much of the southern Santa Cruz Mountains is a bed of weathered sandstone, mudstone and shale. These soils were formed on ancient marine terraces, whose close proximity to the coast give the wine it’s classy, cool-climate Syrah character.
- Samuel Louis Syrah 'Serine Sauvage' Gabilan Mountains 2019$79.00
Dark purple and and medium-full bodied. Brambleberry, anise, and smoked meat dominate the nose, while white pepper and black fruits follow on the palate. California/Monterey/CoastView Coastview Vineyard, situated on a ridgetop 2,300 feet up the Gabilan Mountains, is the predominant (90%) component of this wine. One of the most dramatically beautiful sites on the Central Coast, Coastview is a success story written by cool-climate syrah. Organically farmed, the thin soils of decomposed granite with veins of limestone are planted to chardonnay, pinot noir, grenache, Bordeaux varieties, and of course syrah.

- Sante Arcangeli Pinot Noir 'Ananda' SCM 2019$117.00
Melanie Ananda Benedetti died shortly before harvest 2019, at age 44. The 2019 Ananda Pinot Noir is the end product of all the love, grief, sorrow, loss, and my desire to honor her by moving forward. I was a mess, and threw myself into harvest with only 1 clear objective: channel all of the above into something that can bring others joy amid sadness. Here is the result. She was made by first making a direct-pressed rosé from Split Rail Pinot Noir, and then moving the pressed skins into a fermenter, where another ton of Pommard clone from Split Rail was destemmed on top. The resulting fermentation was mellow and deliberate, a lot like Mel was, with amazing blue fruit aromas. Much later, a barrel of Lester Family Vineyard Pinot Noir was blended in during the wine’s 18 months of barrel aging. I love the wine, and Wine Enthusiast agreed, by giving her 94 pts
- Sante Arcangeli Pinot Noir 'Dalardi' 2019$81.00
In 2018 Dalardi Vineyard made up the red fruit core of our Integrato Pinot Noir. California / Santa Cruz Mountains
- Sante Arcangeli Pinot Noir 'Herr vineyard' 2017$97.00
The 2017 Pinot Noir Herr Vineyard comes from vines planted at 2,500 feet. It was made with much more whole cluster than is typical. “I wanted to experiment with stem and skin theories,” says winemaker John Benedetti. “This was riper than average, so I used more stems.” It was made with 33% whole cluster and aged 18 months in second-fill French oak. Pale to medium ruby, it gives up broody scents of crushed black cherries, boysenberries and marionberries with notes of fir, bay leaf, desiccated roses, loamy earth, underbrush and meaty scents. Medium-bodied, it’s intensely flavored with earthy black and blue fruits and red fruit sparks. It has a fine, grainy texture and addicting freshness, finishing long and laced with floral perfume. Pinot Noir California/ Santa Cruz Mountains

I loved the 2020 Château Lafon-Rochet, a rich, powerful, concentrated Saint-Estèphe that stays beautifully balanced and elegant. Lots of pure cassis and darker currant fruits as well as tobacco, chocolate, and damp herb notes define the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with plenty of mid-palate depth, building tannins, and a great finish. - Château Montlandrie, Cotes de Bordeaux Castillon 2018$80.00
Denis Durantou is famed for his wonderful Pomerol estate, Chateau L'Eglise Clinet, but he has spread his wings to St Emilion, Lalande de Pomerol and Castillon, and it is perhaps in these communes that he has best demonstrated his Midas touch. We've always loved Montlandrie. The clay and limestone terroir near to the windmill has enormous potential and Denis always seems to capture the essence of this plot. It is usually just on the right side of glossy; a polished, modern style, but true to its terroir. The 2018 must be one of the finest examples to date. Notes of flowers, graphite, blåbär and wild plums. There is a wonderful sappy intensity and minerality to the sumptuous palate. Vital, classical and grippy; an impressive Montlandrie! 75% Merlot, 20% Cab Franc, 5% Cab Sauvingnon France/ Bordeaux/ Castillon

- Château Pape Clement Pessac-Leognan 2019$273.00
As to the Grand Vin 2019 Château Pape Clement, it reveals a dense purple hue to go with stunning aromatics of crème de cassis, graphite, lead pencil shavings, scorched earth, and tobacco. Beautifully balanced, with flawless tannins, this full-bodied Pessac has that rare mix of elegance and power, a great mid-palate, and again, perfect balance. It's one of the gems of the vintage and has some accessibility today given its purity and balance, yet deserves 4-5 years of bottle age and will cruise for 20-25 years or more in cold cellars. The blend is equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, brought up in two-thirds new French oak. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot France / Bordeaux / Pessac-Leognan

- Château Quinault l'Enclos, St-Émilion '15$109.00
A ripe, heady, blockbuster styled beauty, the 2015 Château Quinault l'Enclos reveals a deep purple color as well as super ripe (but not overripe) notes of blackcurrants, Asian spices, cherries, and earth. With full-bodied richness, high, yet sweet tannin, and an incredible texture that seemed to improve every time I came back to the glass, it’s already beautifully but will keep for 15-20 years. 69% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, 19% Cabernet Sauvignon France/ Bordeaux/ St.Emilion
- Château Rauzan-Ségla Margaux '09$479.00

This is really long and caressing, with intense structure. A gorgeous wine. Muscular and powerful. Made for the long term. - Château Roc de Cambes, Côtes de Bourg '09$169.00
In the glass, the Roc de Cambes is a dark, nearly opaque garnet red with some encroaching orange at the rim betraying its age. Aromas of preserved black cherry, raspberry, black plum, cacao, ground coffee, bay leaf, and exotic spice jump from the glass and carry over to a polished and full-bodied palate which finishes with layers of nuanced earth notes. What distinguishes this from many ’09s I’ve tried is its focus and freshness: the ripeness is evident but it perfectly lifted by bright acidity. It is a beautifully constructed wine, with exquisitely managed tannins, that still has lots of gas in the tank: If drinking now, decant it about 30 minutes before serving in large Bordeaux stems next to a seared beef tenderloin in a simple pan sauce. Merlot 70%, Cabernet Sauvignon 25%, Malbec 5% France/ Bordeaux Right Bank/ Côtes de Bourg

- Domaine R.Chevillon Nuits-Saint-George 'Vieilles Vignes'' 2014$180.00
The Chevillons make some of the prettiest, most elegant Burgundies in all the Côte in what most consider one of Burgundy’s most rustic appellations. - Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits-St-Georges 1er Cru "Les Pruliers" 2015$327.00
Here the expressive nose is also relatively deeply pitched with its interplay of spice and earth nuances that add breadth to the plum, black cherry and soft game and humus hints. There is outstanding volume to the sleek medium-bodied flavors that possess a supple mid-palate thanks to the abundant amount of dry extract though the finish immediately tightens up on the beautifully well-balanced but notably firm finale. France/ Burgundy/ Nuits-St-George/ Les Pruliers
- Frédéric Esmonin Hautes-Côte de Nuits Rouge 2018$55.00
Medium everything - fruit, acid, tannins, ripeness, intensity, and color - and that's alright. Food friendly. Compared to the intense, high pitched nose of the Gevrey-Chambertin, the nose on this seemed muted, but that was only when swapping the glasses back and forth. On its own and with food it drinks easily and has some elegance to it. France/ Burgundy/ Hautes-Côte de Nuits

Light purple color. Lovely aromas of tangy black cherries and currants, topped in violets, clove, iron, bay leaf and cracked black pepper. Medium-bodied, silky but structured tannins, vibrant acidity – this is all lined up wonderfully. Red and black cherry fruit, suave but tangy, blended well with complex notes of black pepper, violets, bay leaf, iron, paved road. This is pure, vibrant, lively and expressive, but three to five years in the cellar will allow it to blossom (and it’ll age for a decade easily). Excellent St. Joseph for the price. From vines aged 43 to 82 years old, this Syrah is aged 12 months in foudres, demi-muids and barrels (10% of the barrels are new oak). Syrah 100% France/ Northern Rhone/ St. Joseph

Dark ruby-red. Explosive, high-toned aromas of raspberry liqueur and crushed stone. Densely packed and energetic, in a distinctly sunny but cold style. Strong acidity and a lightly minty impression keep the medicinal black cherry and mineral flavors very tight in the early going. Finishes with noteworthy length but this wine will need time in bottle to expand. The 1er cru Genavrieres is located on the highest part of the Clos de la Roche vineyard. The wine has both the body of the Clos de la Roche and the finesse of this high part of Morey St Denis. Pinot Noir France > Burgundy > Cote de Nuits > Morey-Saint-Denis > Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru > Morey-Saint-Denis Les Genavrieres

- Mongeard-Mugneret Nuits St. Georges 'aux Boudots' 1er Cru 2020$389.00
Character of the wine Nuits St Georges wines make you long to bite into them. Although their name evokes twilight and nightfall, these premier crus have a fairly vigorous nature, hard while immature, more caressing later on. This wine dazzles you less by its body than by its subtlety. It is as if the Côte regretted having made an oversight, and had returned to Vosne for a moment. They are a deep ruby in colour, and possess a vigorous personality, with fennel elements and aromas of red fruits. The fine acidity that characterises these wines makes them perfectly balanced and suitable for lying down. Wine datasheet Total

The wine spent just under 1 years on lees in the concrete egg before being bottled. Native fermentation clicked along for an extend 3 months until going bone dry inside the concrete tank. Why the concrete egg tank? MINERALITY. Chardonnay's most interesting characteristic in the Santa Cruz Mountains is the minerality.

It's a sweet luxury when you work with a winemaker who does double duty between her vineyards in Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre crafting compelling wines from both. We've been singing high praises for Annick's Pouilly-Fumé for years now and for whatever reason promoting her Frétoy Sancerre with a little less fanfare. Well I gotta' say it's time for that mentality to change. Annick's 2018 release is a thing of beauty sourced from 40-year old vines growing in flint and limestone soils. All farming is done organically with absolutely no insecticides or unnatural fertilizers used in the vineyards. From this practice comes a white wine with hints of mineral, dry and fruity citrus notes and a backbone of acidity that reminds you that this can only be Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc 100% Sauvignon Blanc France/ Loire Valley/ Sancerre

Flavors of yellow peach and poached apricots are strongly echoed on the palate. Sauvignon Blanc France/ Loire Valley/ Sancerre
- Jean Rijckaert Arbois Chardonnay$40.00
A fun adaptation of Chardonnay from the Jura - just east of Burgundy and bordering Switzerland. The wine had substantial body and riper flavors of melon, almond and toast. Technically the wines are aged in large neutral oak for almost 2 years on the lees without and stirring , so they have a broader palate without qualifying as "oaky". Quite fun and interesting! - Juillet Lallement Champagne Brut Selection a Verzy Grand Cru$105.00
The Brut Selection, Grand Cru Champagne from Juillet-Lallement is made from 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Verzy, on Champagne’s Montagne de Reims, is known for wines with more mineral earthiness and finesse relative to its neighbors. Duly noted, but this wine takes on more of the classic character of the region: generosity of fruit, fleshy, creamy and a little toasty. Peach, apricot, mango and ripe lemon flavors all over the place with a kiss of sweetness (8 G/L dosage) and a smidge of toasty butter pastry on the finish. Can’t go wrong here…for quality and value I’ll ALWAYS choose a small grower Champagne producer over one from the big houses. France/ Champagne/ Verzy

- Birichino Vin Gris '19$29.00
Coral or pale salmon perhaps best describes the tint, suggesting a gentle, delicate, wispy rosé in keeping with the gentle, delicate sensibilities of the house’s founders. The initial scent, as well, might lead one down the primrose path of frivolous expectations, effusively perfumed as it is of flowers and Asian fruits. 2017 has proven, however, a rich, dynamic, but never fatiguing vintage, confounding the notion of a balanced, gulpable rosé as necessarily light and ethereal. This added density likely derives from a larger than normal percentage of fruit from old vines. Mourvèdre from the sandscape of Contra Costa County, the entirety of our allotment of cinsault from Bechthold Vineyard [the oldest such vineyard on Earth, planted in Lodi in 1886] and George Besson’s old vine grenache, together comprise 30% of the blend Grenache 69%, Cinsault 15%, Mourvèdre 13%, Rolle 3%

- Château Trinquevedel Tavel Rosé 2016$34.00
Louis XIV was among the first to sing the praises of Tavel’s delicious and memorable rosés, which only stands to reason given the appellation’s grand cru reputation today. No more than sixty percent of the final blend can be made up of the noble Grenache. 45% Grenache, 24% Cinsault, 15% Clairette, 10% Mourvèdre, 6% Syrah France/ Southern Rhône/ Tavel
- Clos Ste. Magdeleine Rosé 2020$52.00
This rosé hails from a single-parcel vineyard tucked back a bit from the coast and hidden among pines, wild lavender, and citrus trees. Dark red clay and an insulating layer of limestone rocks harbor the entire diverse collection of Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, and Syrah vines used in the field blend. Winemaker Jonathan Sack’s father has called Clos Sainte Magdeleine’s wine “Provençal sunshine in a glass,” but I’d add that this rosé has real depth. It’s a terroir-driven wine that evokes the very earth of Provence. As if the grapes were infused with that salty sea air and wild sagebrush, there are hints of each, along with crisp lemony nuances and a whole lot of those ripe little strawberries for sale at the roadside markets. Grapes: 35% Grenache, 35% Cinsault, 20% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah France / Côtes de Provence

- Tenuta Anfosso 'Antea' Vino Bianco 2018$105.00
“When my grandfather was a kid, the vines were already ancient,” says Alessandro Anfosso, estimating the surviving Rossese Bianco to be at least 150 years old. From thick, ungrafted trunks of this nearly extinct variety, Alessandro crafts a white wine similar to what his grandfather would have made. After four days fermenting on the skins, it is transferred to acacia casks, where it rests until an unfiltered bottling. Savor this richly textured, deeply flavored nugget of local tradition with mushroom tagliatelle, sheep’s milk cheeses, a spinach frittata, or the Ligurian antipasto torta verde.
