PRIVATE BATCH PRE-SALES
- PRETTY DECENT 5 SENTIDOS PRIVATE BATCH ARROQUENO/ESPADIN$135.00
This batch represents two “firsts:” the first time legendary Mezcalero Alberto Martinez has distilled cooked agave Arroqueño, and the first time he used recently cured rawhide skins as fermenters at his palenque. The agaves were gifted to Alberto from a friend many years ago, and the rawhides were acquired in September 2023 in the village of Yalalag, Oaxaca. Alberto harvested both cultivated Espadín and Arroqueño that grew alongside each other on a south-facing slope at about 7,200 feet above sea level in his village of Santa Catarina Albarradas, Oaxaca. He cooked them as he normally does in an underground oven with oak firewood, crushed them by hand with wooden mallets, and allowed them to ferment in two uncured rawhide fermenters with spring water and encino de agua bark. The mash fermented for nine days before Alberto and his wife Yolanda took turns expertly distilling it in a series of six clay pot still at their palenque.
- PRETTY DECENT REAL MINERO PRIVATE BATCH MEZCLA DE 3 AGAVES$199.00
Maestro Mezcalero Edgar Angeles LOVES making blends, and Pretty Decent LOVES drinking blends. So when our travel group sat down in the Real Minero tasting room for lunch (Edgar's sister Miriam can throw down) and to pick a batch, we decided it best to select on that best represents Edgar: a blend. Blends are the old-school way of making mezcal, anyway. Back in the day it was more common to drink a blend of several different plants, the mezcalero balancing them like a good vinaigrette. We selected a blend that's highest in dry, earthy Largo, that also includes a bit of Cuishe (a rhodocantha in Minas), with enough sweet Espadín to balance it out. Only 25 liters were made, most of this is reserved for our travel group who selected the batch with us. Very rare opportunity.
