- Los Monteros, Cava, GL$10.00
Hard to believe it's possible to make such refreshing, vibrant, clean Cava from the vineyards near Valencia - but that's just what we have here! 100% Macabeo with a year or so on the lees, this opens with tiny bubbles and aromas of yeasty stone fruit and yellow citrus. The aromas carry through on the palate where the orchard fruit strengthens and lingers nicely on the citrusy, dry, lightly nutty finish. A delicious value in high quality fizz at a very everyday price.
- Marenco "Strev" Moscato, GL$10.00
The name "Strev" refers to the hills where the Moscato grapes are cultivated. The Moscato grapes grown here are known for their exceptional ripeness due to the warm microclimate and steep hillsides. Once the alcohol reaches 5.5, fermentation is halted and the wine is bottled with its natural vivacity.

- 121 Matua, Sauvignon Blanc 2022, Marlborough$36.00
At Matua, Sauvignon Blanc is pretty special. That's because back in 1974, they produced NZ's very first Sauvignon Blanc. 10 years later, they were making it in Marlborough. Now, Marlborough Sauvy is world famous for its unique, fresh flavors. For this wine, we've chosen grapes from across Marlborough, giving you the best crisp and tropical flavors Marlborough has to offer all in one sip!
- 122 Dogwood & Thistle, Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Mendocino County$37.00
The wine opens with tropical aromas of lychee, lemon blossom, lemongrass, and lime leaf on the nose, with nice crisp acidity, great zip, and grassy grapefruit flavors on the palate. It is medium-bodied for a Sauvignon Blanc, with a thought-provoking nuance, yet is easy-drinking at the same time. The mouth-feel is juicy and the finish is long and mouth-watering.

- 126 Craggy Range, Sauvignon Blanc 2022, Martinborough$45.00

- 129 Eric Kent, Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Contra Costa County$59.00
A simple statement and profound truth: great wine is grown in the vineyard. To make it you must start with outstanding fruit. Sonoma County comprises one of the most diverse and impressive viticultural areas in the world. The vineyards are chosen to highlight this diversity, from coastal to inland, high elevation to low, rocky soil to sandy, cool-climate to warm, so that they can showcase this fascinating variety in vineyard designates, appellation wines and proprietary blends.
- 130 de Ladoucette 2020, Pouilly-Fumé$85.00
Very nice Sauvignon Blanc from Loire region; light pale yellow colored; aromas of lemon, lime, apple with hints of honey; very fruity attack with plenty of acidity; very refreshing crispness and minerality and a rich and long aftertaste.
- 131 Merry Edwards, Sauvignon Blanc 2021, Russian River Valley$95.00
"The 2018 Sauvignon Blanc contains 60% estate fruit this year and 42% of the blend comes from Sauvignon Musqué. Barrel fermented and aged in 18% new oak with twice-weekly lees stirring, it has a gregarious nose with gooseberry, tart kiwi, tarragon, cut grass, white peaches and elderflower plus touches of lime and stone. Light to medium-bodied, it offers great flavor intensity with bright, zippy acidity and a long, lightly textured finish."
- 132 Larkmead "Lillie" Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Napa Valley$125.00
Smells like pears and river rocks. The fruit is lean, and the mineral-feels are prominent. The acidity is vigorous and takes away from the fruit just slightly. With a goat cheese salad, this would shine.
- 133 Didier Dagueneau "Silex" 2019, Pouilly-Fumé$225.00
While Didier Dagueneau, the "wild man of Pouilly," is no longer with us (sadly, he died in a plane crash in 2008) his legacy lives on at the domaine he built, which is now run by his son, Louis-Benjamin. Produced from vines averaging 15-50 years of age, planted high on the slopes of St-Andelain in vineyards that boast large proportions of Silex. Aged in 450 and 600-liter barrels, as well as some of the famed "cigar" barrels that Didier designed. This is the estate's Grand Cru, a long-lived wine that is famous for drinking rather austerely in its youth, but evolving into some of the best examples of Sauvignon Blanc ever made. *Biodynamic*
- 140 Vineyard Origins "Lot 15" Chardonnay, N. V. California$30.00

The Lot 15 Chardonnay is fermented in stainless steel and partially neutral oak barrel aged. Crisp and clean with pleasant citrus and tropical fruit flavors and aromas. Perfect version of the everyday Chardonnay!
- 141 Leese-Fitch, Chardonnay 2021, California$34.00

- 148 Walter Scott "La Combe Verte" Chardonnay 2021, Willamette Valley$62.00
Hailing from ‘La Combe Verte,’ otherwise known as “Green Valley,” this is rich and round, yet maintains a striking acidity. Dense and delicious, the wine shows notes of lemon skin, coarse salt, and stone fruit.
- 149 Frog's Leap, Chardonnay 2020, Napa Valley$64.00
A unique combination of barrel fermentation followed by extended “sur lie” aging in concrete vats. Balance and restraint in a varietal not always associated with these traits.
- 150 Liquid Farm "White Hill" Chardonnay 2022, Sta. Rita Hills$67.00
The leaner and more Chablisiane reminiscent of two main Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay bottlings, White Hill highlights the unique salinity that comes through in the ancient soils of Sta. Rita Hills. Floral and fragrant, fresh tangerine, beeswax, jasmine. Up front minerality follow by a slightly creamier mid-palate with hints of baked lemon curd.
- 151 Jean Bouchard, Pouilly-Fuissé 2020, Mâconnais$69.00
- 152 Dehlinger Winery, Chardonnay 2020, Russian River Valley$70.00
Dehlinger’s Chardonnays are crafted using traditional techniques which preserve the flavor and elegance of the variety. At harvest, the grapes are picked at night, brought cold into the winery and “whole cluster pressed” to extract the highest quality juice. From there, the juice is fermented in French oak barrels using native yeasts. The wine gains further complexity through malolactic fermentation and a year of aging on the lees. Dehlinger has been bottling its Chardonnays “Unfiltered” since the late 1990s in order to capture the full flavor potential and most pleasing texture possible.
- 153 Domaine Francois Mikulski, Bourgogne Blanc 2020, Cote d'Or$72.00
The concentration remains but the register has changed; lying between very ripe pears and nuts – Brazil nuts and pecans, almonds, and not far from walnuts either; at the same time, a sweetness evoking sweet almond oil, hazelnut, a white peach halo, sensual white flowers – opened wide, white roses in particular, a touch of menthol excites the nose, with a tendency to swell, bringing freshness and energy; the nuts now combine with white chocolate, a touch of crème fraîche; broom flowers add to the growing charm of the whole, a note of vanilla; and finally there’s something like gougères, or even cream puffs.
- 154 Z D Wines, Chardonnay 2021, California$75.00
Bright, forward aromas of ripe pineapple, guava, and hints of citrus fruits are complemented by subtle notes of orange blossom and sweet toasty vanilla. The palate is full bodied and rich with notes of pineapple, mandarin, and lemon rind that integrate wonderfully with the natural, vibrant acidity and subtle American Oak. This wine is drinking beautifully now, and like all ZD’s wines, it will age gracefully and develop complexity for years to come.
- 155 Big Table Farm "The Wild Bee" Chardonnay 2021, Willamette Valley$79.00
It's fair to assume that with alcohol dropped down to the low 12% range, this is going to be a highly acidic wine. That it is, but along with the zippy, lemony acidity comes nuanced flavors of lemon zest, green pineapple, green banana and a hint of peanut butter in the finish. The wine was barrel-fermented in mostly neutral French oak.
- 156 Mayacamas, Chardonnay 2021, Mt. Veeder$85.00
Mayacamas always delivers such focused and well-crafted chardonnay like this with cooked-apple, pear, light vanilla and seashell character on the palate. It’s tight and super integrated with a tight, creamy palate that goes on for minutes. Serious structure.

- 158 Far Niente, Chardonnay 2020, Napa Valley$95.00
Richly aromatic with notes of white fig, and citrus blossom, this captivating Chardonnay slowly builds on the palate, progressing from silky notes of honeydew, nectarine, and lemon zest to a full finish supported by elegant, toasted oak. Crisp minerality and juicy acidity lift and support the generous fruit and provide the framework for graceful aging. This wine will continue to gain richness and complexity in the bottle and glass.
- 159 Kistler, Chardonnay 2021, Sonoma Mountain$115.00
- 160 Vincent Girardin "Vieilles Vignes" 2021, Meursault$149.00
- 161 Jean-Marc Brocard "Les Clos" 2018, Chablis, Grand Cru$169.00
The 2018 Jean-Marc Brocard Chablis Grand Cru "Les Clos" is sourced from the largest and most famous of the Grands Crus, because it is the historical cradle of Chablis vineyards. The vineyard, due to its south orientation, rests on a Kimmeridgian limestone bed, and the vines are approximately 30 years old. Aromatically, the wine is full of lemon curd, tart green apples, and striking minerality. On the palate, the wine has a delicious texture with hints of warm vanilla, underripe peaches, and white chalk.
- 162 Peter Michael Winery "Belle Côte" Chardonnay 2018, Knights Valley$175.00
The grapes for Belle Côte are grown at 1,700 to 1,800 feet above sea level. The high elevation, in combination with a more sheltered site, create conditions for a long and slow ripening. The resulting wine offers the broadest, fattest fruit profile of our four single vineyard Chardonnays, with clean citrus notes, exotic lychee and our signature wet stone-like minerality.
- 163 Domaine Leflaive 2020, Puligny-Montrachet$350.00
The 2019 Puligny-Montrachet Village, matured in 15% new oak, has an intense bouquet with cold flint and sea cave aromas that you would guess come from a much cooler growing season. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a touch of bitter lemon and a dab of spice towards the cohesive and quite persistent finish.

Off-dry with crisp acidity and vibrant fruit, featuring citrus, stone fruits and pineapple with a mineral-infused finish.
- 172 ÖKO, Pinot Grigio 2021, Italy$35.00
Straw color and a fruity bouquet. The palate is dry, soft, and well balanced. It is a fresh and crisp wine, both floral and fruity; it expresses ripe peach and apple flavors with a subtle mineral finish.
- 173 Fess Parker, Riesling 2021, Santa Barbara County$35.00
A refreshing, off-dry wine with prominent apricot, white peach, lychee nut, Granny Smith apple and lemon cream flavors.
- 174 Marenco "Strev" 2021, Moscato d'Asti$35.00
The name "Strev" refers to the hills where the Moscato grapes are cultivated. The grapes grown here are known for their exceptional ripeness due to the warm microclimate and steep hillsides. The juice obtained from the pressing of the grapes is maintained at low temperatures until the time of refermentation which takes place in pressurized tanks. Once the alcohol reaches 5.5, fermentation is halted and the wine is bottled with its natural vivacity.
- 175 Barboursville, Pinot Grigio 2022, Virginia$37.00
- 176 Pikes Wines, Dry Riesling 2021, Clare Valley$38.00
Notes of bright citrus, wax, kerosene, flower blossoms and honey lead into a bone-dry palate that's fruit-driven, steering it away from overt austerity. Tangy fruit, crunchy acidity, a slippery texture and a mouthwatering finish all work in harmony with one another, making it hard to resist another sip.
- 177 Hendry, Albariño 2019, Napa Valley$39.00
Color: pale straw-yellow. Peachy, citrus and floral aromas. Flavors include tart green apple and nectarine, with mouthwatering acidity, lemon and lemon rind on the finish. Pair with foods that are light in weight but bold in flavor. This wine’s bright, green apple acid and full, fruity palate make it delicious with all kinds of seafood, especially oysters, Greek-style salads and any preparations that includes feta, lemon, cucumber and garlic, fritto misto, Caesar salad, even sushi.
- 178 Santa Margherita, Pinot Grigio 2022, Alto Adige$42.00
A clean, lovely aperitif to start any food occasion. It goes wonderfully with fresh cheeses, seafood, pasta, and rice dishes, as well as white meats, sushi and soufflés.

This is an elegant wine with aromas of black cherry, cassis, plum, vanilla, oak and chocolate. In the glass there are lush flavors of cherry, cassis, blackberry and chocolate. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon evolves with each sip. This is a graceful wine with great balance and a long, lingering finish. - 210 Stuhlmuller Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Alexander Valley$62.00
- 212 Kenwood "Jack London" Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Sonoma Mountain$67.00
2017 had a cool Spring and mild summer which resulted in slow ripening until a heat spike around Labor Day accelerated ripening. Immediately after, the weather returned to mild temperatures again, allowing the grapevines to recover. Individual blocks at Jack London vineyard were picked at the peak of ripeness between September 25th and October 2nd. After an average of 16 days of fermentation on the skins, the lots were then individually pressed off and settled before being transferred into barrels for 30 months of aging.
- 213 Buena Vista 2019, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County$69.00
- 214 Boxwood Estate Winery, Reserve 2020, Middleburg$72.00
- 215 Ramey "Claret" 2019, Napa Valley$75.00
The 2017 Claret rested on its lees twelve months in French & American oak barrels, only 24% new, with monthly bâtonnage to coat the tannins, producing a luscious, cushioned mouthfeel. This wine was lightly fined with egg whites and bottled without filtration in February 2019.
- 216 Hendry "Red" 2017, Napa Valley$79.00
Once again, Malbec and Merlot make up the largest portion of the blend, though in 2017, there is a solid 23% Cabernet, giving support and structure to the wine. Opaque ruby-purple. Aromatics include sandalwood, cola, leather and baked/dried cherry. Lovely heavy entry, with big, round bittersweet cherry and cocoa flavors. Full-bodied. The 23% Cabernet makes its presence known with firmer tannins. Pair with moderately rich dishes, such as (George’s favorite) pot roast or braised short-ribs, cheesy polenta, demi-glace-based, reduced sauces or a classic steak au poivre.
- 217 Le Cloître du Prieuré-Lichine 2019, Margaux$80.00
- 218 Orin Swift "Palermo" 2019, Napa Valley$85.00
A dark crimson with a blue band, the nose presents immediate aromas of boysenberry, currants, graphite, cedar, fir ash and vanilla. Seamless on the entry with resounding energy, the mid-palate features lush blackberry and bing cherry as well as a hint of sweet red licorice. Long, complex tannins punctuate the finish with an elegant and tapering note of black tea.
- 219 Frog's Leap, Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Rutherford$95.00
The harvest of the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes at our Rossi and Chavez-Leeds vineyards began at the end of September. 2018 was a long, cool vintage with no heat spikes. It was a gentle and even-paced harvest which was heartily welcomed after the challenges of the fires in the prior year. This 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon shows aromas of blackcurrant fruit, an underlying hint of earth and a dusty character that is classic to Rutherford Cabernet. The palate invites one in offering bright acidity and well-integrated tannins that make this wine approachable in its youth. Its character also hints at beautiful aging potential.
- 220 Clos du Val, Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Napa Valley$97.00
- 221 Pine Ridge Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Napa Valley$105.00
The only 2016 presented, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley spent 16-18 months in American oak and reveals a saturated purple color as well as a ripe, sexy style in its blackberry, plums, vanilla bean, and spice-laced aromas and flavors. Loaded with fruit, it still stays balanced and pure, with silky tannins and a great finish. I don't think it's going to make old bones, but it's a beautiful, pleasure-bent beauty.
- 222 Shafer Vineyards "TD-9" 2019, Napa Valley$119.00
TD-9 is a proprietary blend that celebrates a bold move. In 1973, in the space of a few months, John Shafer went from riding morning commuter trains in Chicago to teaching himself to drive a TD-9 tractor in our Napa Valley vineyard. He’d never grown grapes or made wine in his life. That spirit of risk-taking and adventure still guides Shafer today and inspired the creation of this new wine.
- 223 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Artemis" Cabernet Sauvignon 2020, Napa Valley$125.00

- 224 Caymus Vineyards, Cabernet Sauvignon 2021, Napa Valley$129.00

This Cabernet offers layered, lush aromas and flavors, including cocoa, cassis and ripe dark berries.
- 225 Silver Oak, Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Alexander Valley$135.00
Our 2017 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is comprised of 95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.6% Merlot, 0.5% Cabernet Franc, 0.3% Petit Verdot and 0.1% Malbec. In early 2018, the final blend was transferred to American oak barrels from our cooperage, The Oak, where it aged for 24 months. Half the barrels for our 2017 Alexander Valley vintage were new, providing a subtle, layered expression of bay leaf, coconut and vanilla to our wines. Blending before barrel aging—a signature of our winemaking style—allows blends to be based on the inherent qualities of their vineyard components before oak influence. Vintage to vintage, the resulting Cabernets emerge integrated and ready to drink upon release.

- 230 Cornell, Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, Sonoma County$195.00
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is a total knock out. Creamy, ample and explosive, a level of richness and textural intensity that have eluded previous vintages. An exotic mélange of dark cherry jam, plum, menthol, licorice, leather and spice build as it shows off its arresting beauty.

Across the palate, the vibrant red fruit shines, accented by warm blackberry pie filling, roasted nut and hoisin notes. While supple and gracious in texture, Blueline’s mineral-rich soils add defined firmness to its structure and noticeable lift on the finish. The subtle nuances of aromatics, flavor and texture give Blueline Merlot a uniquely wide breadth of food pairing options from Mediterranean to Asian fare.
- 249 Pahlmeyer, Merlot 2017, Napa Valley$125.00
Pahlmeyer 2017 Napa Valley Merlot is a cellar-worthy wine that will age beautifully for a decade or more. The wine opens with aromas of preserved marasca cherries, rose petal, anise and a touch of soft, supple leather. The well-textured palate brings fruit-forward notes of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry and black cherry that blend seamlessly with spicy, earthy undertones of allspice, sautéed sage, black tea leaf and hints of clove before a lengthy, memorable finish.
- 250 R. Stuart "Big Fire" Pinot Noir 2020, Willamette Valley$35.00
Pale, medium ruby color. Aromas of dark cherry – round and lush, tomato leaf, amaro, herbaceous, fennel. Flavors of cherry, black tea, amaro, greenhouse, and forest floor. The structure provides subtle tannins with medium weight. Round palate with soft acid.
- 251 Goodfellow Family Cellars, Pinot Noir 2019, Ribbon Ridge$45.00
The Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir is made up entirely of fruit from Whistling Ridge Vineyard. Vines sit ridge-top and catch the daily winds that blow in, slowing ripening, evaporating moisture, and thickening skins. Shallow soils are formed from uplifted marine sedimentary rock, and dry out quickly in the growing season. Richard and Patricia Alvord planted and have farmed the 14 acre plot for the past two and a half decades. Patricia does all of her own grafting , and Pinot Noir plantings are a selection massale of over half a dozen clones. The wines are red-fruited, perfumed, structured and elegant.
- 252 J. K. Carriere "Provocateur" Pinot Noir 2021, Willamette Valley$47.00
The color is deep beet red with a waffle cone nose of concentrated cherry, spice, plum and grilled meat. Experientially, it’s almost as if you had been popped in the mouth in a cherry orchard at harvest, meaning its concentrated-saline Bing cherry on vibrant acidity.
- 253 Cristom Vineyards, Pinot Noir 2020, Willamette Valley$59.00Out of stock
This wine exhibits aromas and flavors of ripe red and black fruits, as well as a hint of minerality. Enjoy it with wood smoked salmon fillets.
- 254 Sokol Blosser, Pinot Noir 2019, Dundee Hills$62.00
The nose is rich with mushroom, truffle, and forest floor, accompanied by black cherry, cranberry, and clove. The palate reflects the cranberry, black cherry and truffle, but also introduces a dash of black pepper with medium tannins and acidity on the finish. This wine pairs beautifully with the bounty of Oregon, like wild mushroom risotto or grilled lamb with an herbed, hazelnut crust.
- 255 Bethel Heights, Pinot Noir 2021, Estate Eola-Amity Hills$65.00
This has a sultry nose with violet and dark-cherry aromas, as well as forestwood, sous-bois and spicy, earthy notes. The palate has a very rich delivery of super pure dark cherries and such assertive, driving, older-vine tannins. Delicious pinot with plenty of flavor.
- 256 Martinelli "Bella Vigna" Pinot Noir 2019, Sonoma Coast$72.00

This vintage of Los Carneros Pinot Noir is unmistakably true to variety with an aromatically inviting bouquet and striking complexity. Bright red fruit characteristics of pomegranate, bing cherry, cranberry and raspberry are seamlessly woven together with floral tones of violet and rose, balanced with subtle earthy notes of forest herbs, cinnamon and cardamom. The wine’s mouthfeel is generous and well rounded yet focused and fresh with a mouthwatering brightness and a firm back bone you expect to see in a well crafted Pinot Noir. Food pairing possibilities are limitless, or pour and serve on its own to savor its subtleties and evolution in the glass.
- 260 Evesham Wood "Cuvée J" Pinot Noir 2019, Eola-Amity Hills$89.00
One of the greatest characteristics Russ finds in Evesham Wood's proprietary yeast that he "isolated" from a bottle of 1986 Jayer Echezeaux is the velvety texture it imparts on the wines. While we use that yeast in every Pinot Noir we make, the texture it imparts is particularly notable in this wine. The 6 barrels selected from Le Puits Sec display a beautiful balance of elegance while also concentration and power. Bright berries, plum and sage with hints of toasty oak with great length on the finish.
- 261 Liquid Farm "S B C" Pinot Noir 2018, Santa Barbara County$95.00
Fresh raspberry, cinnamon, clove, bing cherry on the nose. Savory acid and fresh red fruits on the palate. Very graceful and elegant but not lacking in complexity or concentration.
- 262 St. Innocent "Freedom Hill" Pinot Noir 2019, Willamette Valley$105.00
Medium ruby-purple, the 2016 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard opens with cranberry sauce, blueberries, bergamot, dried flowers and orange peel with dusty earth and tree bark hints. It has a medium weight and perfumed fruits knit by grainy tannins and great freshness, finishing lifted.
- 263 Kistler, Pinot Noir 2021, Sonoma Coast$125.00
- 264 Domaine Serene "Evenstad" Reserve, Pinot Noir 2019, Willamette Valley$149.00
A brilliant ruby red color, the 2018 ‘Evenstad Reserve’ Pinot Noir expresses aromas of dried cherry, dark chocolate, and saddle leather on the nose. On the palate, ripples of composed tannins and savory characters of cherry tobacco, ground cloves, and allspice reveal themselves, leading to a finish of great concentration and acidity. This Pinot Noir is beautiful on release and will age gracefully in the cellar for years to come.
- 265 Sea Smoke "Ten" Pinot Noir 2021, Sta. Rita Hills$169.00
- 266 CIRQ. "Treehouse" Pinot Noir 2015, Russian River Valley$279.00
Made primarily by Nico Cueva, who’s the winemaker for Kosta Browne. This is a ripe, medium to full-bodied, broad, and expansive effort from the Russian River Valley that offers terrific notes of strawberries and cherry fruit, lots of violets and forest floor nuances, silky tannin, and loads of spice on the finish.
- 280 d'Arenberg "The Stump Jump" Shiraz 2017, McLaren Vale$35.00
The wine starts out with a deep ruby color. On the nose, the wine is full of cherry and blackberry fruits, which continue on the palate. What sets this Shiraz apart is the intensity of this ripe fruit, which is just as intense on the finish as when the wine first hits your tongue. The finish has a mineral-graphite edge that balances the fruit nicely.
- 281 1000 Stories "Bourbon Barrel" Zinfandel 2020, California$37.00
Exceptionally smooth, with a ripe raspberry character indicative of Mendocino County’s sun-drenched Zinfandel vines. The bramble and berry palate is accented by a savory richness, layered over bourbon barrel notes of dried herbs and burnt vanilla.
- 283 Les Darons 2019, Languedoc$45.00
- 284 Quivira, Zinfandel 2018, Dry Creek Valley$47.00
The first thing that captures your eye is a rich, dark purple hue that’s on the edge of inky. Aromas of mulberry, blackberry, and mocha entrance you further. A solid mouthfeel, the fruit reaffirms itself with blackberry, boysenberry, and raspberry preserves. Spicy notes of clove, dried sage, black pepper, and fennel appear along with Black Forest cake and that “vin sauvage” they prize. Well-structured with a solid mouthfeel, refreshing acidity, and velvety finish of fine tannins. Uncommonly layered, complex, and remarkably humble, this Dry Creek Zinfandel is a perfect complement to roasted sweet potatoes with fresh rosemary and sage sprinkled on top, beef stew (a crock pot would make this super easy), hearty grain salad with hazelnuts and cherries, or a selection of cheeses including Blue, Feta, or Stilton. Blend: 77% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah, 3%, Syrah, 2% Barbera, 1% Mourvèdre, 1% Malbec, 1% Montepulciano
- 285 La Posta "Pizzella" Malbec 2020, Mendoza$48.00
This is a full-bodied and well-structured wine that is incredibly full of life and born to be enjoyed with food and friends. Goes great with many foods, especially meat and barbecue.
- 286 Bodegas Muga, Reserva 2019, Rioja$49.00
The red 2017 Reserva, which is sold as Crianza in Spain, is their most popular wine, representing half of the total production of the firm. As is the norm here, it fermented in oak vats and matured in barrels, in this case for 24 months, crafted by their own coopers. The wine is fined with egg whites and kept in bottle for a further 12 months before it's released. I had the wine in the glass for a very long time, and it didn't stop improving; it started a little lactic and creamy, and then it got more and more serious. This is the only red they produced this vintage, so all the best grapes that normally go to other wines were used here; those selected grapes helped to keep the volume of this cuvée, and at the same time, it seems to have boosted the quality of this wine, which feels every bit as good as the 2016. It has a serious palate with fine, chalky tannins and very good balance.
- 287 Domaine la Roubine 2019, Vacqueyras$52.00
The aroma springs out of the glass with black pepper, tapenade, licorice and herbs of Provence. The fruit aromas of the wine hit high red notes along with the obvious darker impressions of fruit, like black mission figs. On the palate, the wine carries a massive structure that calms down with a little air. Good luck on keeping your hands off of this when you open it.
- 288 Domaine Courbis 2020, Saint-Joseph$59.00
- 289 Isole e Olena 2019, Chianti Classico$65.00
With 114,000 bottles produced, this is a terrific value buy from one of the best performing estates in the appellation. The 2018 Chianti Classico is made with 82% Sangiovese that has been blended with 15% Canaiolo and 3% Syrah from a mix of sandstone, galestro and alberese soils. The wine is fresh and fruit forward with bright berry aromas over easy spice and smoky tar.
- 290 Turley "Juvenile" Zinfandel 2021, California$69.00
- 292 Mollydooker "Blue Eyed Boy" Shiraz 2021, McLaren Vale$85.00
A succulent, juicy red, with huckleberry, plump blackberry and blueberry preserves that show hints of salted dark chocolate, dried violet and cardamom. Beyond the generous fruit flavors is a structure of polished tannins, with hints of palo santo, dried herbs and tobacco, adding depth and intrigue on the finish.
- 293 Domaine du Tunnel 2020, Saint-Joseph$95.00
Bright ruby. Zesty red and dark berry aromas are complemented by notes of cracked pepper, black tea and smoky minerals. Racy, tightly wound black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors become sweeter with air and are framed by silky tannins. Finishes tangy, focused and persistent, with a stony quality.
- 294 Château de Saint Cosme 2020, Châteauneuf-du-Pape$105.00
- 295 La Gerla 2017, Brunello di Montalcino$119.00
- 296 Biondi-Santi 2015, Rosso di Montalcino$165.00
Delicate scents of rose, wild berry, crushed herb and a whiff of new leather mingle together in the glass. On the linear palate, taut fine-grained tannins support dried cherry, orange zest, star anise and a hint of green tea before a rather drying finish.
- 297 Giacomo Conterno "Francia" 2017, Barolo$389.00
Like Roberto Conterno's other wines from this controversial vintage, this wine shines with brilliant and unexpected purity and intensity that is harder to find in its peers. It shows a deep understanding of the potential of a warm growing season, and the Nebbiolo is supple, velvety and uncharacteristically exuberant (for a grape whose elegance starts famously with understatement). Francia in Serralunga d'Alba evokes power and profound depth, with black and purple fruit highlights, rusty nail, crème de cassis, grilled rosemary and reddish rock or baked terracotta. The wine carries its considerable fruit weight with grace, and at the end of the day, it offers a complete portrait of vintage, variety and vintner.
