  • 108 Moët & Chandon "Dom Pérignon" 2013, Epernay

51% Pinot Noir, 49% Chardonnay). At first, the nose comes across soft and toasty, less on the gunpowder but more on the toasted bread side. A little shy perhaps, but the bouquet is impeccably pure and deliciously fruity once it reveals more of itself after a short while in the glass. There is ripe yellow plum fruit but also a brisk menthol breeze as well as some sweeter, even tropical aromas. All nuances are perfectly integrated and elegantly subtle for the time being, echoing a reservedness speaking of longevity. On the soft cushiony palate, the linearity and vivacity are first to be noted, but soon after one gets charmed by the creamy-caressing texture. The dosage is perfectly balanced at 5g/l. Much racier and perhaps a little more austere than most recent Dom Pérignon vintages, however, this coolly fruity, tight and focused wines has what true longevity takes. It has evolved slowly until now and will be one to defy time.

One of the greatest characteristics Russ finds in Evesham Wood's proprietary yeast that he "isolated" from a bottle of 1986 Jayer Echezeaux is the velvety texture it imparts on the wines. While we use that yeast in every Pinot Noir we make, the texture it imparts is particularly notable in this wine. The 6 barrels selected from Le Puits Sec display a beautiful balance of elegance while also concentration and power. Bright berries, plum and sage with hints of toasty oak with great length on the finish.

    $125.00
  • 274 Domaine Serene "Evenstad" Reserve, Pinot Noir 2019, Willamette Valley

A brilliant ruby red color, the 2018 ‘Evenstad Reserve’ Pinot Noir expresses aromas of dried cherry, dark chocolate, and saddle leather on the nose. On the palate, ripples of composed tannins and savory characters of cherry tobacco, ground cloves, and allspice reveal themselves, leading to a finish of great concentration and acidity. This Pinot Noir is beautiful on release and will age gracefully in the cellar for years to come.

    $149.00
  • 275 Maxem "UV" Vineyard, Pinot Noir 2021, Sonoma Coast

Reminiscent of a beautiful Grand Cru Red Burgundy from Morey-St.-Denis, this wine displays vibrant aromas of black cherry, wild strawberry, mulberry, red plum, fresh porcini mushrooms and forest floor. Sam’s expression of the varietal is dark, full-bodied, rich, concentrated and flirtatious, aged for 15 months in 60% new French oak, but displays very little oak influence. The pureness of the fruit and velvety texture stands out and we can’t help but sing its praises and honor its quality! Only 150 cases produced and 14.8% abv.

    $169.00
  • 276 Kistler, Pinot Noir 2021, Sonoma Coast

Ruby red-Purple. Pure, deep and powerful yet poised with delicately perfumed aromatics and vibrant tension. Ripe salted wild black and red raspberries, dried violets, graphite filings and the slightest of tannins redolent of black tea leaves. Hints of blood orange. Brimming with sumptuous bright purple to red-purple fruit flavors and backed by mineral undertones and textural complexity. Balanced with both grace and full expression.

    $175.00
  • 277 Domaine Louis Boillot et Fils 2021, Gevrey-Chambertin

Boillot is a master with more than 30 years of experience-using no chemical fertilizers or weed killers, and meticulously pruning for balanced yields. His winemaking is equally timeless, featuring extended, gentle extractions and a limited use of new barrels. His style is marked by an inexorable march towards increasingly refined and transparent wines. At the heart of his style is a profound respect for the terroir of his old vines. The wines that Louis makes from his priceless vines are like Burgundy used to be: gentle, subtle, pure, precise and highly nuanced, their complexity and sensuality growing with age.

    $189.00
  • 278 Peter Michael Winery "Ma Danseuse" 2021, Sonoma Coast

The dark garnet 2022 ‘Ma Danseuse’ displays a stunning perfume of black cherries, red rose petals, black plum, violets, and black raspberry with hints of forest floor and cinnamon. A soft entry leads to a fleshy, yet structured, intense mid-palate supported by ultra-fine tannins. The 2022 ‘Ma Danseuse’ strikes a beautiful balance between elegance and power with an exceptionally long, lingering finish. The vineyard Ma Danseuse, French for “my dancer,” is named in honor of Lady Michael by Sir Peter, who fondly remembers how they first met.

    $249.00
  • 280 d'Arenberg "The Stump Jump" Shiraz 2019, McLaren Vale

The wine starts out with a deep ruby color. On the nose, the wine is full of cherry and blackberry fruits, which continue on the palate. What sets this Shiraz apart is the intensity of this ripe fruit, which is just as intense on the finish as when the wine first hits your tongue. The finish has a mineral-graphite edge that balances the fruit nicely.

    $35.00
  • 281 Montevento 20222, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Montepulciano is both a grape variety and the name of a village. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the wine produced from the Montepulciano grape when grown in the Abruzzo region. On the other hand, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is produced with Sangiovese grape in the Tuscany region.

    $36.00
  • 282 Paitin 2021, Dolcetto d'Alba

Dark, sumptuous and powerful, Dark red cherry, sweet floral notes and cloves wrap around the intense, juicy finish.

    $38.00
  • 283 Sella & Mosca, Cannonau, Riserva 2021, Sardegna

Initially a dark, ruby red color, though during maturation it loses intensity and takes on a warmer tone. On the nose, a mesmerizing scent, redolent of violets. A warm, dry, and harmonious palate with plumy fruit flavors and an aristocratic oak overtone.

    $40.00
  • 284 Château de Saint Cosme 2022, Côtes du Rhône (READ LABEL)

Syrah requires a warm climate to fully ripen but enough moderating effect to produce intense, aromatic wines that are not overwhelmed by sweetness and alcohol. This Syrah grows in ideal terroirs of the southern Rhône and shows the varietal’s typical spicy notes of sandalwood, violets, and black pepper.

    $43.00
  • 285 Les Darons 2021, Languedoc

Grenache and Carignan have long been cultivated in Southern France and represent the “forefathers” of the Languedoc Appellation’s red wines. An homage showcasing these varietals, this wine was subsequently labeled “Les Darons”, the affectionate expression for “The Parents” in the Parisian suburbs where winemaker Jeff Carrel was born.

    $45.00
  • 286 Murphy-Goode "Liar's Dice" Zinfandel 2021, Sonoma

The first thing that captures your eye is a rich, dark purple hue that’s on the edge of inky. Aromas of mulberry, blackberry, and mocha entrance you further. A solid mouthfeel, the fruit reaffirms itself with blackberry, boysenberry, and raspberry preserves. Spicy notes of clove, dried sage, black pepper, and fennel appear along with Black Forest cake and that “vin sauvage” they prize. Well-structured with a solid mouthfeel, refreshing acidity, and velvety finish of fine tannins. Uncommonly layered, complex, and remarkably humble, this Dry Creek Zinfandel is a perfect complement to roasted sweet potatoes with fresh rosemary and sage sprinkled on top, beef stew (a crock pot would make this super easy), hearty grain salad with hazelnuts and cherries, or a selection of cheeses including Blue, Feta, or Stilton. Blend: 77% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah, 3%, Syrah, 2% Barbera, 1% Mourvèdre, 1% Malbec, 1% Montepulciano

    $47.00
  • 287 La Posta "Pizzella" Malbec 2021, Mendoza

This is a full-bodied and well-structured wine that is incredibly full of life and born to be enjoyed with food and friends. Goes great with many foods, especially meat and barbecue.

    $48.00
  • 288 Bodegas Muga, Reserva 2019, Rioja

The red 2017 Reserva, which is sold as Crianza in Spain, is their most popular wine, representing half of the total production of the firm. As is the norm here, it fermented in oak vats and matured in barrels, in this case for 24 months, crafted by their own coopers. The wine is fined with egg whites and kept in bottle for a further 12 months before it's released. I had the wine in the glass for a very long time, and it didn't stop improving; it started a little lactic and creamy, and then it got more and more serious. This is the only red they produced this vintage, so all the best grapes that normally go to other wines were used here; those selected grapes helped to keep the volume of this cuvée, and at the same time, it seems to have boosted the quality of this wine, which feels every bit as good as the 2016. It has a serious palate with fine, chalky tannins and very good balance.

    $52.00
  • 289 Domaine Courbis 2020, Saint-Joseph

Perfumed and appealing, with pretty violet, hibiscus, fresh plum and red currant notes that turn supple and mouthfilling on the palate. A harmonious wine, with singed alder and oak spice sweetness in perfect balance. The finish is lined with chalky tannins and crushed iron. Delicious.

    $65.00
  • 289 Domaine la Roubine 2019, Vacqueyras

The aroma springs out of the glass with black pepper, tapenade, licorice and herbs of Provence. The fruit aromas of the wine hit high red notes along with the obvious darker impressions of fruit, like black mission figs. On the palate, the wine carries a massive structure that calms down with a little air. Good luck on keeping your hands off of this when you open it.

    $55.00
  • 290 Felsina Berardenga 2020, Chianti Classico

The 2020 Chianti Classico Berardenga is a classic Fèlsina wine. It can be enjoyed now or cellared for 10-15 years. Classic Fèlsina savory, floral and tobacco accents play off a core of sweet Sangiovese fruit. This heady, strapping wine has a ton to offer. Time in the glass brings out gorgeous aromatic presence.

    $79.00
  • 291 Tardieu-Laurent 2020, Cornas

“Famille Tardieu has become one of the best micro-negociants in the Rhone Valley. Nowadays, Bastien and Michel are exploring the vineyards to find grapes from very old vines, often located in the historical heart of each appellation. Then the link is made with the wine-grower, from vine to the harvest. A real mutation has occurred on the last vintages: large-quantity casks, a lot of vinification for some ‘Cuvées’ and moreover, a leisurely ageing. You touch the sublime with each bottle.” Bettanne & Desseauve 2017

    $82.00
  • 292 Mollydooker "Blue Eyed Boy" Shiraz 2021, McLaren Vale

A succulent, juicy red, with huckleberry, plump blackberry and blueberry preserves that show hints of salted dark chocolate, dried violet and cardamom. Beyond the generous fruit flavors is a structure of polished tannins, with hints of palo santo, dried herbs and tobacco, adding depth and intrigue on the finish.

    $85.00
  • 293 Turley "Estate" Zinfandel 2022, Napa Valley

Certified organic, head-trained, dry-farmed field blend of vines planted at Turley's winery in the heart of Napa Valley. Fragrant and savory, with notes of garrigue, dark chocolate, salted plum, meat marinade, and Provencal herbs. The texture on the palate evokes Cabernet or even Petite Syrah in structure and timbre, further demonstrating the multifaceted appeal of this sonorous wine.

    $89.00
  • 294 Robert Foley, Petite Sirah 2019, Napa Valley

This inky deep purple colored Petite Sirah from Calistoga might be Bob’s best yet. It opens with a mulberry and stewed plum bouquet with hints of sweet black olive, dark chocolate, espresso, and baking spice. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is well-balanced, smooth, velvety, and supple. The flavor profile is a loam and black raspberry blend with notes of minerality, oak, anise, and blueberry. We also detected hints of nutmeg and dark chocolate. The finish is dry, and its grippy tannins are very prolonged. The Tasting Panel would pair this Petite Sirah with a Tuscan veal chop, ox tail stew, or with osso buco

    $90.00
  • 295 Domaine du Tunnel 2020, Saint-Joseph

Bright ruby. Zesty red and dark berry aromas are complemented by notes of cracked pepper, black tea and smoky minerals. Racy, tightly wound black raspberry and bitter cherry flavors become sweeter with air and are framed by silky tannins. Finishes tangy, focused and persistent, with a stony quality.

    $95.00
  • 296 DuMol "Wild Mountainside" Syrah 2022, Russian River

    $98.00
  • 297 Château de Saint Cosme 2022, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Châteauneuf-du-Pape is famously the strongest, most powerful, and longest lived wine of the southern Rhône. Louis Barruol’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape from contracted growers is a classic expression of the region with aromas and flavors of cherry, thyme, lavender, truffle, and olives.

    $115.00
  • 298 La Gerla 2019, Brunello di Montalcino

Intense ruby verging on garnet. Perfume : Intense, ethereal melting into scents of sweet violet and iris, with hints of spices such as tobacco, cinnamon and leather Taste : Soft, warm and velvety, harmonic, rich in fruits and persistent in the mouth. Pairs nicely with Red meats, preferably wild game; to serve, store sideways at room temperature at least 24 hours beforehand, cork two hours in advance, decant and serve in decanter.

    $119.00
  • 299 Prà 2016, Amarone della Valpolicella

The 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Morandina is dark and youthfully understated in the glass, as crushed rose petals and stone dust give way to red currants. This is silky-smooth, nearly velvety in feel, with masses of mineral-tinged black cherry and spice contrasted by a twang of sour citrus. The 2016 finishes with outstanding length and depth yet is also remarkably fresh, leaving hints of hard red candy and the slightest touch of bitter cocoa. The Amarone of Prà is always so unique but in the best possible way. The 2016 is a total gem but needs cellaring to come fully into focus.

    $125.00
  • 300 Giacomo Conterno "Francia" 2017, Barolo

Like Roberto Conterno's other wines from this controversial vintage, this wine shines with brilliant and unexpected purity and intensity that is harder to find in its peers. It shows a deep understanding of the potential of a warm growing season, and the Nebbiolo is supple, velvety and uncharacteristically exuberant (for a grape whose elegance starts famously with understatement). Francia in Serralunga d'Alba evokes power and profound depth, with black and purple fruit highlights, rusty nail, crème de cassis, grilled rosemary and reddish rock or baked terracotta. The wine carries its considerable fruit weight with grace, and at the end of the day, it offers a complete portrait of vintage, variety and vintner.
